Police investigate serious assault on elderly man in Cheltenham
Appeal for information following Honeybourne Way attack
Police in Cheltenham are appealing for information following a serious assault on Honeybourne Way that has left a man in his 70s in critical condition.
The incident occurred near Waitrose at around 7.30pm on 8th April.
The victim was hospitalised at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after being attacked by two men, whose images have been released by police.
Prior to the assault, the men were seen on the Millennium Bridge throwing a large branch at a cyclist below.
Although the cyclist was not injured, it is reported that an exchange took place with the victim on Honeybourne Way before one man punched him in the face, causing him to fall.
The assailants fled the scene before officers arrived, leading to closures on the Honeybourne Line for forensic examination.
Police are urging the public to plan alternate routes due to ongoing investigations.
Officers describe the first man as white, between 20 and 30 years old, muscular, and bald, wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, and grey shoes.
The second man is also white, of similar age, topless, with black shorts having a left-leg logo, a grey cap, white socks, and grey trainers.
Anyone with information or footage related to the incident is encouraged to contact police.
