World famous horse racing events like Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National are drawing interest into the sport of horse riding.

Riding schools in Gloucestershire say they often see young people developing an interest in taking up the sport after the events have taken place.

With Cheltenham taking place just a few weeks ago and the Grand National race taking place later today the worlds eyes are on the sport.

Hundreds of thousands of people visit Gloucestershire for the Cheltenham festival and the county had a rich history with the industry.

Sarah Everitt from Foxcote House Livery Yard & Riding School told Greatest Hits Radio “I think the racing industry and racecourses are trying to get more young people interested in going to the races and watching racing.

“And then I think that does have a little bit of flow outside of racing onto people wanting to take up riding, having lessons and so forth.”
