Police are appealing for information after someone shot a cat in the eye with an air rifle in Stroud last week.

It was reported that the cat, called Mittens, had been outside and returned to her owner's address in the Cashes Green area of town at around 4.15pm on Thursday 9 January.

She was visibly distressed due to a traumatic injury to her right eye.

Mittens, aged two, was taken to the vets where she underwent emergency surgery.

During the operation, an air rifle pellet was found lodged in her right eye, which could not be saved and had to be removed.

Officers from the Stroud Neighbourhood Policing Team have conducted house to house enquiries and investigating officers are now asking for anyone with information on the incident to get in contact.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident or who may have CCTV or doorbell footage which they feel is relevant is urged to get in touch.
