Four new King penguins at Birdland in the Cotswolds have been given names inspired by Toy Story.

King penguins Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Lilypad have made themselves at home at the wildlife attraction in Bourton-on-the-Water, with the names chosen by fans in a Facebook poll.

The four penguins arrived at the Cotswolds wildlife attraction earlier this year from Europe and are now settling into their new home, alongside its existing colony of Humboldt penguins.

Birdland say they will soon each have their own name bands, making it easier for visitors to identify them.

“We’re delighted to finally be able to reveal the names of our new king penguins,” said Alistair Keen

“We loved seeing the suggestions from our visitors and followers and it was fantastic to let them have a say through the Facebook poll.

“Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Lilypad have already become firm favourites, and we’re looking forward to seeing visitors get to know them.

Once their name bands are on, it will be even easier for everyone to tell our newest residents apart. We're just hoping Buzz won't attempt to emulate his namesake's flying skills,” he added.

The new king penguins join Birdland’s wider collection of more than 500 birds.
