Arrests at protest against Palestine Action ban in Gloucester
The protest outside Gloucester Cathedral was against the ban of direct action group Palestine Action
Several people have been arrested at a protest in Gloucester in support of the banned group Palestine Action.
People with placards saying "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action" gathered outside Gloucester cathedral today (November 18) as part of nationwide demonstrations from Defend Our Juries.
Gloucestershire Police said in a statement: "We have been at the scene of a protest that has taken place outside Gloucester Cathedral this afternoon (Tuesday 18 November).
"We recognise protest is a fundamental democratic right but will take action against those who break the law.
"A number of people showed support for a proscribed organisation, which is an offence under the Terrorism Act 2000
"Officers engaged with these protesters and provided them with an opportunity to leave before later making a number of arrests."
Palestine Action was banned in July, making membership of, or support for, the direct action group a criminal offence.
Demonstrations by Defend Our Juries are being held in town and cities between November 18 and 29 in support of lifting the ban on Palestine Action.
