A charity supporting rough sleepers across the South West says it's still here for people needing their help.

While many support services shut their doors over the holidays, Wiltshire-based Alabaré is committed to staying open and providing a range of essential services.

Naomi Webb, Head of Homelessness at Alabaré, explained how the festive season can amplify feelings of belonging for those in positive situations but can also intensify negative feelings for those facing difficulties, including rough sleeping.

She said: “This is the season that really shines a light on family and friends and a sense of belonging.

"I’m very much aware of the emotional impact this season can have on those that are facing rough sleeping this winter."

Alabaré services during Christmas

Alabaré is providing drop-in facilities every day through its Comfort Zone in Chippenham and its Somewhere Safe to Go centre in Salisbury, ensuring rough sleepers have access to essential support.

The charity’s residential services also remain operational across locations in South Wales, Devon, Bristol, and the South West, continuing their mission to foster a sense of belonging among residents and people accessing its services.

The charity's residential services continue to be open in Devon, Bristol and across the South West, as the organisation aims to restore hearts and empower minds, as well as providing homes.

How the public can help

Naomi encouraged members of the public who are concerned about someone sleeping on the streets to use StreetLink, an online platform designed to connect rough sleepers with local support.

“StreetLink is a very simple form that will go directly to the local authority who can get the right support out to the rough sleeper and make sure that they’re given the right support and hopefully housing options,” she said.

For anyone wanting to make a difference to those facing homelessness this winter, Alabaré continues to offer vital resources and unwavering support.
