A new traffic order will lower speed limits on sections of the A38 Tewkesbury Road starting today (6th February).

Issued by Gloucestershire County Council, the order aims to adjust speed limits to enhance road safety across various parishes in Tewkesbury Borough.

According to the council, the traffic order has been made under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and other enabling powers, following consultation with the Chief Officer of Police.

The new speed limits will affect roads within the parishes of Twigworth, Down Hatherley, Norton, and Leigh.

The order specifies that no motor vehicle will be allowed to exceed speeds of 40mph in designated parts of the A38, outlined within Schedule 1 of the order, with sections described in Schedule 2 maintaining a 50mph limit.

This legislation does not apply to vehicles regulated under the Road Traffic Exemption (Special Forces), ensuring certain services are not restricted by the new limits.

The previous traffic order by Gloucestershire County Council in 2006, which set speed limits on various parishes within Tewkesbury Borough, will see parts revoked as outlined in the new order.

Details of affected road sections and schedules for the new limits are provided by Gloucestershire County Council, with the official document sealed on 22nd January 2026.
