Start date confirmed for Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing
One last fish with Ted
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing will be returning very soon for a ninth series, following the eighth in the Autumn of 2025, and last year's Christmas special.
Sharing the exciting news, the BBC announced the launch date on Instagram, captioning the trailer: 'Bob and Paul are back - and there’s time for one last fish with Ted ❤️
'Watch Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing on #iPlayer and BBC Two, with new episodes from Sunday 25 October'. (sic)
Fans were quick to respond with comments such as: 'This is what we needed 😍' and 'Yes, they’re back! 🙌🏼'.
Where do they travel?
In this series, the pair travel from Shetland to Hampshire, with Paul saying in an interview: "Shetland was amazing, it has an extraordinary landscape and seascape. We missed the puffins by a week though. You can't control puffins! They migrate when they want."
Bob added: "We've seen a lot more birds this series. I don't know whether there's more birds in the UK, but oystercatchers, and winkle-warblers, and cormorants, and eagles..."
Does Ted make an appearance?
Yes, Ted, the dog who has joined them on their adventures over the years, does make an appearance in this series one final time. The Patterdale Terrier mix made his first appearance in series three in 2020, but sadly Ted passed away in April 2026.
Reflecting on their best memories of Ted, Paul said: "I just think we used to see Ted when we went fishing, so it was always a nice, glorious reunion with Ted. The great thing about Ted, really, is he didn't give a monkey's about us, did he, Bob? I think that's what we really loved about him."
Bob added: "He was the perfect dog in that sense."
Is there a trailer?
Yes, there is, it was released in October. In the trailer we get to see Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse as they go on a fishing adventure with Ted the dog, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
When does Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing return?
The ninth series will start at 9pm on Sunday 25th October on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two.
How many episodes?
It has not been announced, but previous series have included six episodes along with a Christmas special.
