Pink Floyd premiere 30-minute film documenting spectacular solar eclipse event
Watch what happened in Australia earlier this year
Pink Floyd have premiered a 30-minute film documenting their incredible solar eclipse listening event in Western Australia as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for ‘The Dark Side of the Moon'.
Back on Thursday 20th April, eight lucky competition winners (named The Astronome Domine Eight) travelled to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park in Exmouth, Australia.
Overseen by the group’s long time Creative Consultant and Hipgnosis co-founder Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell, the octet listened to Pink Floyd’s masterpiece album ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ in its entirety at the unique event.
Impressively, the listening party was timed so that when the moon and the earth aligned to create the total solar eclipse it coincided with Roger Waters singing “But the sun is eclipsed by the moon…” on the album's closing track ‘Eclipse.’
Also entitled Eclipse, the documentary, created by Powell and his team, Director Benny Trickett and Producer Fiz Oliver, follows the Astronome Domine Eight who listened on headphones alongside a purpose-built pyramid on a deserted beach.
It traces their journey from applying for the trip through to their emotional feelings afterwards. Locals in the area and thousands of others who had also made the historic trip to Exmouth to be part of the experience were also interviewed as part of the documentary.
