Dumfries and Galloway housing projects secure major funding
Grants aim to alleviate the region's housing crisis
Two regeneration projects that will create new homes in Dumfries and Galloway have secured significant Scottish Government grants.
These projects will help bring some welcome relief for the region gripped by a housing emergency.
A report going before Dumfries and Galloway Council’s economy and infrastructure committee on June 9 confirms that two housing-focused proposals have successfully secured funding through the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

An award of £838,909 has been confirmed for preparatory works at 130-132 High Street, Dumfries, which will support the development of seven mid-market rent flats.
A further £1,034,058 has been secured for site remediation and enabling works in Gatehouse, which will pave the way for seven new homes.
The council report states: “Final information has been submitted to enable drawdown of the funding, marking a major step forward in bringing these important developments to fruition.”
Elsewhere, the regeneration of Annan Harbour has also received a boost, with £1,343,683 awarded from the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme — funding which has already been fully drawn down and spent within the 2025/26 financial year.
Work also continues on the Lockerbie Old School project, now 20 months into its construction phase. Despite funding challenges to complete the full project, funders are working with the group to find a way forward, and the new Lockerbie Enterprise and Wellbeing Hub is expected to open to the public by the second quarter of 2026/27.
