'We need to value Central Park' argues Plymouth writer in new book
Central Park The Story has just been published
Plymouth’s Central Park is being celebrated in a new book as it approaches its centenary.
Local writer Andrew Young started out as a volunteer tree warden there in 2004 and wanted to write a book to reflect its changes - both positive and negative - over the past almost 100 years.
He said: "To some extent I think people do appreciate what we have here.
"It was designed by the internationally famous firm of landscape architects Thomas Mawson and sons and Plymouth City Council wanted it to be the finest park in the Kingdom."
He added: "I came to the park quite late, only 22 years ago and I think a lot of other people are in the same position and they just really don't know it's here - I know that sounds crazy a big park in the middle of Plymouth.
"Those who do know do love the park."
Mr Young has also spent many years studying Plymouth’s trees and written about them in his book called “For the Love of Trees”.
