The Trust looking after a memorial garden which was vandalised at Derriford Hospital has expressed the profound impact of the incident.

Devon and Cornwall Police reported that damage occurred to the Forever and Always Garden overnight between 29th and 30th June, with items reportedly stolen from a shed in the garden.

Jade from the Phoebe Hoskin Trust said that while the garden may appear to be just a statue to some, for grieving families it represents their children and cherished memories.

'Your support means more than words can express'

In a statement, Jade added: "The Forever and Always Garden at Derriford Hospital is so much more than a garden. It is a place of love, remembrance and comfort for families who have experienced the loss of a child.

"For many parents and loved ones, it is a special place where they can remember their child, reflect and feel close to them.

"The damage caused to the memorial has been absolutely heart-breaking. While it may appear to be just a statue to some, to the families who visit the garden it represents their children, their memories and the love they continue to carry every single day.

"To see it vandalised has left so many people feeling shocked, upset and devastated.

"At The Phoebe Hoskin Trust, we are dedicated to supporting bereaved families and creating spaces where they feel seen, understood and never alone.

"The Forever and Always Garden was created to provide a peaceful sanctuary for anyone grieving the loss of a child.

"Seeing that place damaged has affected not only our charity, but also the hospital staff who support these families and the wider community who have embraced the garden with such kindness.

"However, if there is one positive to come from this, it is the incredible response from the public.

"We have been overwhelmed by the compassion, generosity and support shown by so many people.

"The messages, donations and offers of help have reminded us that love will always outweigh hate.

"We remain committed to restoring the memorial and ensuring the Forever and Always Garden continues to be a place of comfort, hope and remembrance for generations of families to come.

"No act of vandalism will ever diminish the love families have for their children or the importance of this special place.

"We would like to thank everyone who has stood beside us over the past few days.

"Your support means more than words can express."
