Unmanned dinghy found in Plymouth prompts search for owner
The small boat was discovered with personal items on board but no sign of anyone nearby
An unmanned dinghy discovered in Plymouth has prompted a search for its owner.
The Coastguard reported finding the dinghy in Firestone Bay shortly before 10am today (Monday, 23rd February).
Personal items were found on board but no person present.
Police are carrying out enquiries to locate the owner and to determine whether anyone may have entered the water, found themselves in danger or had items stolen.
PC Jessie Rapson-Blackler said, “The dinghy was not secured and not in a suitable position for mooring.
"The outboard was located submerged in water a few metres away. Enquiries so far have been unable to identify an owner.
"It’s possible that somebody may have gone overboard prior to the dinghy washing up, or it may just have been abandoned there.
"Either way, we are carrying out enquiries to identify the owner or anyone with knowledge of it.”
The Coastguard has conducted a search of the water but has not identified anyone yet.
It's believed the dinghy may have been in the area since Sunday afternoon.
Police are asking anyone who might have seen the dinghy or have information regarding its owner to contact them.
Anyone with information is urged to call 999, quoting log 181 of 23rd February.
