Passenger train services on the West of England Line resumed this morning following the completion of track improvements over the Easter weekend.

Network Rail and South Western Railway engineers installed 805 metres of new track between Axminster and Honiton to enhance the railway's reliability.

Utilising a tamping machine, engineers aligned the tracks after renewal, ensuring they meet the required standards for a smoother travel experience.

These improvements are aimed at providing passengers with more consistent and comfortable journeys on this route.

The track renewal was strategically planned for the Easter weekend when passenger numbers are typically lower.

This allowed for minimal disruption in services while maintaining shuttle train and rail replacement bus options between Honiton and Exeter St Davids, as well as Yeovil Junction and Exeter.

Speaking on the Track Renewal

George Murrell, Route Renewals Director of Network Rail Wessex, extended gratitude to passengers for their patience during the works.

"We’re grateful to passengers for their understanding during our Easter track renewal in Devon," Murrell said.

Murrell emphasised that the work undertaken will improve reliability and future journeys on the West of England Line.
