Torridge District Council boosts EV charging access across district
New network aims to support cleaner transport and reduce emissions
Torridge District Council has partnered with electric vehicle charge point operator Believ to expand EV charging infrastructure, aiming to enhance accessibility and support cleaner transport throughout the district.
Believ will install and operate up to 26 charging stations, offering both standard plus* and rapid charging speeds across council-owned car parks, including Churchfield Car Park in Appledore, Riverbank Car Park in Bideford, and Manor Car Park in Holsworthy. The first phase of installations is expected to go live later this year.
Serving more than 68,000 residents in north-west Devon, Torridge District Council is committed to promoting sustainable growth and reducing carbon emissions. Believ, selected through a competitive public procurement process, will fully fund and manage the charging network, ensuring it meets accessibility standards.
Councillor Bob Hicks, Lead Member of Economy & Estates for Torridge District Council, emphasised the collaboration's significance, saying: "This is a real step change to make the transition from traditional cars to EVs an easier one. Our collaboration with Believ will ensure that all communities across Torridge will benefit."
Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: "We're delighted to be partnering with Torridge District Council to bring reliable and accessible EV charging to communities across North Devon."
The initiative supports the council's wider ambitions around sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, without requiring public funds.
