£20 million rock defence scheme construction starts in Torcross
Almost 90,000 tons of rock will help protect the community from storm damage

Construction is underway on a £19.8 million rock defence scheme in Torcross aimed at safeguarding the community from storm impacts.
The project will see nearly 90,000 tons of rock armour positioned along the shoreline to lessen wave energy impact and reinforce storm protection.
The Environment Agency has secured all necessary consents and licences after consulting with stakeholders like Natural England.
The project will involve the delivery of just under 60,000 tonnes of rock by sea and an additional 30,000 tonnes by road, beginning next week, subject to weather conditions.
The scheme is executed by Kier Infrastructure, working collaboratively with the Environment Agency to ensure the delivery effectively protects the Torcross community.
This initiative aligns with the Environment Agency’s Flood Action Week to raise awareness of flood risks and preparation strategies.
Philip Ramsay, Operations Director of Kier Infrastructure, said that a concerted effort between all parties has enabled the construction to start on time in October.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about potential weather impacts and progress updates related to the project.
