Work is under way on a £1.4 million coastal protection scheme at Seaton Hole, with a barge currently unloading 6,500 tonnes of rock onto Seaton beach.

Deliveries by sea began on Tuesday 23 September and continued overnight, with unloading visible from West Walk today, Wednesday. Access to the beach from West Walk is temporarily restricted while the rocks are safely moved into place.

The project, led by East Devon District Council and South West Flood & Coastal, will use the rock armour to reinforce the base of the cliffs. The improvements are designed to reduce erosion and protect 41 nearby homes, including a care home, from cliff falls and sea damage.

The works are expected to be completed by November, with some sections of Seaton Hole beach closed periodically for safety. Local businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the project.
