A man has been arrested after a stabbing in Exeter.

Police were called to Durham Close at around 5.30am this morning.

It is reported that two men were involved in an altercation at a property and both sustained suspected stab wounds.

Enquiries are ongoing in the area - police say there is no wider threat to the public.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "A 62-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 GBH and remains with police at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing. There is no wider threat to the public as a result of this incident.

"Police were called to Durham Close, Exeter, at around 5.30am on Thursday 2 January following reports of a stabbing. It was reported that two men were involved in an altercation at a property and both sustained suspected stab wounds.

"Anybody who witnessed anything in the area at around the time of the incident is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting log 88 of 2 January."
