Police appeal after serious crash in Paignton

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious crash in Paignton.

A man in his 70s was rushed to hospital in the incident.

In a statement, officers said: "Officers were notified of the collision which involved a green Citroen C1 VTR saloon and a pedestrian on Great Western Road, Paignton at the junction with Torbay Road, at around 3.55pm on Monday 7 April.

"As a result of the collision, the pedestrian, a local man in his 70s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Torbay District Hospital for treatment.

"A 23-year-old woman from Paignton has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. She has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst an investigation took place at the scene. The road was reopened at around 8.45pm.
