People are being urged to stay away from the site of a significant cliff fall in South Devon.

Teignbridge District Council has put path closures in place after a landslip occurred at The Ness resulting in soil, rocks, and trees falling onto Shaldon Beach, covering parts of the shoreline in debris.

Council teams have inspected the area and installed warning signs and fencing in areas which have been closed off for safety.

The affected segment of the South West Coast Path that passes through the Ness woodland is closed, and visitors are being warned against approaching the cliff fall site due to the risk of more landslides.

Despite the closures, walkers can still use the South West Coast Path, with detours available, redirecting people through the Ness car park onto the public highway and eventually to Shaldon.

The district council say the measures are in place to safeguard the public from potential falling debris or unstable grounds.

They added that they will continue to monitor the area, with further inspections scheduled in the coming week.

Councillor Jackie Hook, Executive Member for Environment, Climate and Sustainability, said:

"We appreciate that it’s disappointing to have restrictions in areas which are popular with residents and visitors alike, but public safety has to be our priority.

"Further falls are likely, so we would urge people to stay well clear - please don’t risk your safety by trying to access areas that have been cordoned off."
