Police investigating the death of a man in Plymouth have been granted an extension of detention of the main suspect.

Devon and Cornwall Police had arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead partially within a wheelie bin near Grand Parade just after 6:40am on Wednesday (October 21st).

The victim, believed to be in his 50s, had suffered stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

An order has now been granted by a judge at Plymouth Magistrates' Court to extend the suspect's detention order.

Under the new order, the suspect will now be legally detained for another 36 hours for questioning by detectives.

Speaking on the update, Detective Inspector Chris Lithgow from Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "A large-scale investigation is continuing at pace with a significant number of witness, CCTV, house-to-house and search enquiries taking place.

“We understand this is a concerning incident for the community and every effort is being made to establish the circumstances surrounding this death.

“A suspect remains in police custody as our investigation continues.

“The suspect and victim are believed to be known to each other and we are keeping an open mind as to any motive.

“We are asking members of the public to help our investigation by avoiding speculation and by not sharing any unconfirmed information online.”

A cordon in the area has been reduced, with road closures remaining in place in Eddystone Terrace and Garden Crescent.
