Essential sea defence repairs at Meadfoot Beach in Torquay to start soon
Promenade closures planned to ensure safety during construction
Beach users in Torquay are being advised of upcoming essential repair works this autumn at Meadfoot Beach.
The repairs will focus on restoring the sheet piling structure as the final phase of sea defence repairs following damage from Storm Ingrid earlier this year.
To ensure the safety of workers, the western section of the promenade near beach chalets 1 to 30 will close from 7am on Monday until 5pm on Friday during the construction.
Site preparation is set to begin on Monday, 28th September, with repair works expected to start on Monday, 5th October, aiming for completion in about ten weeks, subject to weather and tides.
The promenade closure is scheduled during working hours, but the beach and sea remain accessible via alternative routes, including the slipway and a steeper flight of steps at the far end of the beach.
Meadfoot Beach Café and Above Water will remain open.
Cllr Adam Billings, Cabinet Member for Pride in Place, Transport and Parking, stated: "These repairs are essential for Meadfoot's sea defences to remain safe and resilient for the future. By scheduling the works post-summer, we hope to minimise disruption, allowing continuous beach access via alternative pathways."
Beach access will be restored each weekend, and the project is strategically timed to occur outside the main beach season.
