Large fire breaks out at derelict hotel in Torquay

Residents in the Belgrave Road area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke

Emergency Services are currently at the scene of a large fire on Belgrave Road in Torquay.

Several fire and police crews are present at the site of a derelict building, known formally as ‘Sherwood Hotel’, after being alerted at 2pm today, Sunday 5 April.

Fire crews from Torquay and Paignton were first on scene at the blaze, but it quickly became clear they would need more support. Additional fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were soon called in to help tackle the incident.

Residents in the Belgrave Road area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke coming from the incident.

Belgrave Road has been closed both ways with slow moving traffic from Falkland Road to the A379, Torbay Road. Please avoid the area for the time being.

Witnesses and anyone who withholds footage regarding the blaze is being urged to contact police.
