Jacob's Ladder in East Devon to remain closed for repairs following safety inspection
East Devon District Council say the Grade II listed steps in Sidmouth are a vital access route
Jacob's Ladder in East Devon will remain closed until further notice after a recent structural inspection found that certain components require repairs.
East Devon District Council said the Grade II listed steps in Sidmouth are a vital access route and a cherished local landmark.
The Council is collaborating with structural timber specialists and its Conservation Team to analyse the inspection results thoroughly and determine the most suitable methods for repair while preserving the steps' historical significance.
East Devon District Council said in a statement on social media: "Public safety is our priority, and we are taking a careful, considered approach to ensure the steps can be repaired appropriately and brought back into use when it is safe to do so."
The Council also thanked the local community for their "continued patience" while the work progresses and said further updates will be provided when more information is available.
