'I think people are more worried than they were at Christmas' says Bishop in Easter message
The Rt. Rev'd Dr Mike Harrison has also been making Hot Cross Buns for the first time
The Bishop of Exeter says Easter Sunday can be a difficult time for some - and ahead of today he's been spending time with the homeless and those with addictions.
The Rt. Rev'd Dr Mike Harrison, the most senior member of the clergy in Devon, says 2025 has so far not been easy for most people though
He said: "Any major festival can be particularly sharp for people who may for one reason or another be alienated from their own families or alone and isolated.
"I think people are more worried than they were at Christmas, because if you think about it - what with the international situation - and trading issues and this on top of existing issues such as the environmental crisis you can see that these are difficult days."
The Rt. Rev'd, who is a keen baker has also prepared for his first Easter in Devon by making Hot Cross Buns for the first time.
He said "While the hot cross buns didn’t quite turn out as I was hoping, the experience of making and baking them while talking about the way the history, ingredients and symbols related to the Easter story was really helpful in challenging me to think about how this story can be made accessible to a wide variety of people - whether those completely unfamiliar with the events of Easter or those who know the narrative very well."
