Wales & West Utilities is reporting that work to upgrade the gas pipes in Bickington is progressing well.
Work has just begun on Mill Hill, the road from Church Hill to Combrew Lane, after engineers have completed a stretch to replace the pipes on Bickington Road, between Cedars Roundabout and Fremington Quay.
This section on Mill Hill will be ongoing until 18 December and it has been agreed with Devon County Council that the layby will be closed for the next three weeks, while rolling two-way traffic lights will be in place until mid-November, as this work progresses.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities wider work to invest over £1.8 million over the next year to upgrade gas pipes across Bickington and the surrounding areas. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see more than nine kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area, which will benefit approximately 1,000 local customers as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area.
Wales & West Utilities’ Roxanne Whittaker is managing the programme and said: “We are progressing well with our work and want to remind people that businesses remain open whilst we carry out this essential work.
“We are committed to keep the local community updated of our progress as we work to upgrade our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across the area. We’ll continue to work closely with the local authority, and commit to keep communities informed as projects are planned and delivered.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.
“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”
