Axminster Fire Station has experienced an eventful weekend as it responded to various fires and incidents across Devon and Somerset. Crews were dispatched to numerous locations, providing vital support and ensuring community safety.

Axminster crews face a caravan fire in Kilmington

On 10th July, crews from Axminster and Colyton Fire Station responded to a fully developed fire involving a single tow-along caravan in Kilmington.

The caravan was completely destroyed by the fire.

Emergency teams used breathing apparatus, attack jets, and hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze while Colyton Fire Station established a water relay from a nearby hydrant.

Domestic fire in Chard

Later the same day, Axminster crews assisted efforts at a domestic fire in Chard after a hedgerow fire spread to a lean-to structure at a residential property.

Fortunately, the fire had already been extinguished upon arrival.

Crews conducted thorough checks to ensure no hidden fire spread was present and cleared out the lean-to's contents to identify any concealed hotspots.

False alarm fire open in Ilminster

On 11th July, Axminster crews headed to Ilminster following reports of a fire in the open called in by a member of the public.

However, upon arrival, it was confirmed to be a false alarm.

Crews were stood down accordingly.

Standby duties across Devon

Throughout the weekend, Axminster teams provided standby cover at several fire stations across Devon due to large-scale incidents.

They were called to Taunton, Exeter, Bovey Tracey, Ilminster, and Honiton Fire Stations on different occasions to ensure operational cover was maintained in the respective areas.

Agricultural fire in South Chard

On 12th July, Axminster crews were mobilised to a significant agricultural fire in South Chard, joining forces with Chard, Lyme Regis, Colyton, and Yeovil Fire Stations.

The fire involved a barn, and firefighting efforts included water supply, grassland protection, and command support roles.

Axminster's team contributed water provision, command support, and safety duties, and was relieved after several hours.

The incident is expected to continue for some time as fire-fighting operations persist.

Expressing gratitude to those who supported the crews with fresh refreshments, Axminster Fire Station extended thanks, especially to Costa Coffee at Ilminster Service Station.
