A property fire involving a thatched roof in North Bovey has seen multiple units called out to help tackle it.

Fire Control received the call at 10.35 pm last night (20/5) and immediately dispatched eight fire engines and specialised units from several nearby stations.

These included Moretonhampstead, Chagford, Bovey Tracey, Ashburton, Okehampton, North Tawton, and Princetown, with additional support from Honiton, Danes Castle, and Crediton.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed smoke was coming from the thatched roof.

They began to strip the thatch to assess fire spread and monitored the roof from various angles.

The equipment used by the teams included ladders, hose reel jets, safety gear for working at heights, hand tools, and thermal imaging cameras.

Firefighters have been steadily checking for hot spots and potential fire spread as they clear the thatch material.

The situation remains ongoing.
