Fire crews tackle grassland blaze in Plymouth's Devonport Park
Deliberate fire leads to temporary road closure
A fire broke out in the Devonport Park area of Plymouth yesterday (16th August), with emergency services receiving multiple calls about the incident.
The fire, measuring 50m by 50m, occurred near Ferry Road and was attended by three fire crews from Camels Head, Crownhill, and Greenbank stations.
Firefighters used two hose reel jets and a 51mm jet to extinguish the blaze, which was believed to have been started deliberately according to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.
The affected section was the hillside to the west of Park Avenue, close to the Torpoint-Devonport Ferry terminal.
The fire led to the temporary closure of the A374 Park Avenue main road while crews tackled the flames.
A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: “At 7.02pm on 16 August, we received multiple calls reporting a small grassland fire measuring 50m x 50m near Ferry Road in Plymouth. Three appliances from Camels Head, Crownhill, and Greenbank fire stations attended.
"Two hose reel jets and a 51mm jet were used to extinguish the fire. The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.”
