Fire crews rushed to barley fields fire

A fire has broken out in barley fields in Devon
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the fire at Kennford just before half past two this afternoon
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said:
"Fire control received over 20 calls to a field on fire in the area of Kennford.
"Fire control initially mobilised 2 fire appliances from Danes Castle and Clyst St George and a water carrier from Torquay.
"Whilst crews were on route, due to the size of the fire, they sent an assistance message to control requesting 2 further appliances, these were mobilised from Bovey Tracey and Ottery St Mary along with supporting officers.
"Once on scene, crews confirmed approximately 8-10 acres of standing crops involved in fire and sent another assistance message to control requesting 2 further resources, these were mobilised from Newton Abbot and Ashburton. Due to the nature of this incident, an incident command unit from Totnes, a welfare unit from Ivybridge and other supporting officers were also mobilised.
"This incident is currently sectorised and crews are making good progress.
"This incident is still on going and will be updated when more details allow."
