Film producers from places like Los Angeles are flying in for the International English Riviera Film Festival, which returns this weekend

The event - this year at Torquay's Royal Lyceum Theatre - has now been running for a decade and aims to give a platform to the next generation of talented film-makers.

Founder John Tomkins says it's helped to springboard the careers of many of the past winners, reflecting: "One of them she's now a top TV producer and she co-produced Mr Bates Vs The Post Office. A best score winner has done orchestration work and programming for things like Wonka - so big budget films and things."

Mr Tomkins says the event continues to grow in reputation, adding: "It's the biggest amount of film producers we've had come to the festival ever and they're coming from local, Torbay, Devon, across the UK and we've even got some film producers flying in from Los Angeles."

Devon-based film-maker Anthony Bueno is one of the judges. who says the festival is a great opportunity to network: "It isn't an easy industry and it doesn't matter where you are.

"London obviously is a massive hub but especially in the South West it is a common discussion that you have - there are a lot of people around here that are out there making things but to get it seen and properly out there is very hard."
