Farmwise returns to teach youngsters where their food comes from
Key Stage Two pupils from across Devon will today be meeting farmers and getting hands on with food production
Last updated 6th Oct 2026
More than 1,500 Devon primary school pupils are today learning where their food comes from.
Despite living in a rural county, FarmWise was started over concerns that increasing numbers of youngsters are becoming disconnected from the local farming community.
The event helps young people understand where their food comes from, meet the people who produce it and learn about the role farming plays in Devon's economy, environment and rural communities.
Many of the farmers involved come from family-run businesses across the county, including several tenants of Devon County Council's Farms Estate, and volunteer their time to help inspire the next generation.
This year's event will welcome Key Stage Two pupils children from over 35 schools. Activities will cover livestock, dairy, food production, wildlife, forestry, the environment and the wider agricultural sector.
The event is organised in partnership with the Devon County Agricultural Association, Devon County Council, Norse Group and Mole Valley Farmers.
