Exmoor National Park will mark its 71st anniversary on Sunday 19 October 2025 with a series of community events and initiatives under the banner of Exmoor Day. The annual celebration recognises the park’s designation in 1954 and its role within the UK’s family of 15 national parks.

This year’s focus combines conservation, local business and community spirit through the “Eat Cake for CareMoor” campaign, a fundraising effort supporting projects that protect Exmoor’s landscapes and improve public access. Participating cafés and eateries across the park will be donating proceeds from cake sales to the CareMoor scheme.

Dan James, who works with Exmoor National Park Authority, explains “So this year our big push is a really fun one to go and eat cake for CareMoor. CareMoor is our fundraising scheme and we've got a number of businesses across the National Park over the weekend selling cakes in aid of CareMoor.”

He adds “71 years ago this year that Exmoor became one of the national parks. It's now part of a family of 15 across the UK and they are our most outstanding landscapes — brilliant opportunities for recreation. And Exmoor Day is just about celebrating all that is wonderful and great about Exmoor.”

Events surrounding Exmoor Day include the opening of a new boardwalk at Porlock Marsh, supported by local businesses and the South West Coast Path Association, and the launch of the new National Park Management Plan, setting out future priorities for conservation and access.

A “Hamper Hunt” organised by Visit Exmoor will also take place, with clues shared online leading participants to a location on the moor. The winner will receive a hamper of goods from local producers.

Julie Colman, Rural Enterprise Coordinator for Exmoor National Park, says “Exmoor Day is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the people, places, and partnerships that make this landscape so special. From local businesses supporting conservation through CareMoor, to public access improvements like Porlock Marsh boardwalk, it’s inspiring to see communities coming together to celebrate this very special landscape.”
