New £9.3 million programme aims to boost education in Devon and Torbay
DTCCA launches fund to expand learning opportunities and facilities
Eligible educational institutions in Devon and Torbay are being called upon to participate in a new capital investment programme, aimed at enhancing learning opportunities for young people.
The Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority (DTCCA) has launched a £9.3 million programme to create more places and improve educational facilities from 2026 to 2030.
Due to a projected increase in demand for post-16 education and training, the programme seeks to address the forecasted rise of 1,595 additional learners by 2030. The initiative intends to ensure young people have access to superior education and training in their locality.
The programme emphasises projects that increase capacity, including constructing new teaching spaces, specialised facilities, and required infrastructure.
Eligible organisations include Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group, South Devon College, and Cornwall College, as lead applicants.
Collaborative efforts with schools, academies, independent training providers, and community organisations are encouraged, with the goal of proposing innovative projects that align with regional workforce needs.
DTCCA Chair Cllr David Thomas expressed commitment to ensuring all young people achieve their potential, stating: “This funding will help expand post-16 education and training provision by creating more learner places and improving facilities where they are needed most. By encouraging strong partnerships between colleges, schools, training providers and other organisations, we can build a more inclusive and resilient skills system.”
