Scammers are targeting people parking in Torbay with fake QR codes on roadside meters.

Stickers carrying the fake information have been appearing on pay-to-park machines across the bay.

Now the council has taken to social media to warn drivers not to fall for the fraud.

The scam stickers carry a QR code, a phone number and links to download an app to a mobile phone.

But, says Torbay Council, they are not genuine.

In a social media post the council says: “We do not use QR codes to pay for parking in our car parks. Please use the official RingGo app on your mobile phone, and the dedicated number code for the parking location.

“The team has been checking all the machines regularly and removing any stickers they have found, but if you find any before the team, please report them by emailing [email protected].

“Thank you for your vigilance and cooperation in helping to keep our community safe.”
