The message from East Devon District Council to dog owners is that season exclusions are now in place on a number of our beaches from May until the end of September.

The following beach areas are subject to dog restrictions during this period:

  • Sidmouth: Dogs are not permitted on the beach between Jacobs Ladder and the access ramp opposite Sidmouth Sailing and Sea Angling Club
  • Sidmouth: Please also ensure dogs are kept on a lead on the stepped area in front of the Jacobs Ladder beach huts and along the esplanade adjacent to the beach
  • Seaton: Dogs are not permitted on the beach between Castle Hill and Trevelyan Road
  • Season: Dogs must be kept on a lead from The Chine, including West Walk, to Trevelyan Road
  • Budleigh Salterton: Dogs are not permitted on the beach between South Parade and Lime Kiln car park
  • Budleigh Salterton: Dogs must be kept on a lead along the esplanade adjacent to the beach
  • Beer: Dogs are not permitted from the point below the Sea Hill beach access path to the edge of the cliffs in the west, but dogs on leads are allowed access to the beach café, located within the exclusion area
  • Exmouth: Dogs are not permitted on the beach between the Octagon café and the second groyne at Orcombe Point
  • Exmouth: Along the esplanade adjacent to the beach and in Beach Gardens, Pavilion Grounds and Queen’s Drive Space

The council’s Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) are designed to help prevent anti-social behaviour and enable all beachgoers to enjoy their visit. Enforcement officers may issue fixed penalty notices for non-compliance.
