Police have launched an investigation after a human skull was discovered in a carrier bag at Kings Quay, Brixham.

Officers were called to the scene at around 3.40pm on Thursday, 9 October, after reports that a bag containing what appeared to be a bone had been found at the base of the Man and Boy statue.

The bag was seized by police, and following examination, the bone was confirmed to be a human skull.

The remains will now undergo specialist forensic analysis to determine their age and origin.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: “We were called at 3.40pm on Thursday 9 October to Kings Quay in Brixham after a carrier bag containing what appeared to be bone was found at the base of the Man and Boy statue.

“The bag has been seized, and following examination, the bone is confirmed to be a human skull. It will now be examined by specialists to confirm its age.

“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances, but enquiries suggest that the skull was located by fishermen out at sea and had been brought to shore.”

Police say the investigation remains ongoing and no further information is currently available.
