A Devon school has won a prestigious award for commitment to prioritising mental health and wellbeing.

Phoenix Bay School, near Newton Abbot, was recognised in the 'Wellbeing Award for Schools', developed in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau.

The school was recognised for 'proactive approach to addressing mental health challenges and creating a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive'.

Phoenix Bay School is a specialist educational provider, offering tailored support for students with diverse needs.

Parent Tania Blackmore said: "It’s absolutely fantastic and very deserved that Phoenix Bay has been awarded the wellbeing award.

"My son has been at Phoenix Bay since year 7 and is now in year 11. We have been going through a very difficult time recently, and the support from all the staff there has been amazing. They have gone above and beyond for my son and me. I’m safe knowing that if there is something my son can’t talk to me about, he can speak to any member of staff at school.

"Every staff member at Phoenix Bay would have done this even without winning the award, which makes this moment even more special and well-deserved. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Phoenix Bay family. Congratulations to you all on receiving such a well-deserved, fantastic award."
