A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his one-month-old son.

Tony Bartlett, 38, denies killing Atticus Bartlett in Chard, Somerset, in July 2022.

Bartlett, of Axminster, Devon, appeared at Bristol Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Friday.

He replied "not guilty" when the charge alleging that he murdered Atticus was read to him.

Judge Julian Lambert fixed a trial date of June 11 next year, with a trial estimate of four weeks.

The judge told the defendant: "You may now leave the dock on bail with your existing conditions."

Charles Row KC appeared for the prosecution during the hearing, while Nigel Power KC represented Bartlett.

A further case management hearing will take place on November 28.

Avon and Somerset Police previously said officers were called by paramedics to an address in Chard at about 11.30pm on July 16 2022.

The baby was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died on July 23.
