Devon couple assaulted by man as they tried to help him
The man was initially grateful for the help, but reportedly turned angry after
Devon and Cornwall Police have launched an appeal after a couple were assaulted by a man they were trying to help.
Police were alerted to an incident taking place on the A381 close to both Totnes and Newton Abbot at around 10:45pm last Saturday (October 17th).
When officers arrived, they found that a husband and wife had been assaulted, after noticing a man who was drunk walking along the road in the dark.
The couple had said that they were concerned for his welfare and offered him a lift to the nearest town, which the man was grateful for.
After some time however, the suspect is believed to have become aggressive, before assaulting the woman, who was driving the car.
After stopping the car, the man was ordered to get out of the vehicle, but he reportedly refused - and started punching the couple, leaving them both injured.
The suspects has been described as "a white male in his mis 30s, 5ft 10ins to 6ft in height, of average to athletic build and with short brown hair and no facial hair".
Devon and Cornwall Police are now appealing for information, asking anyone who may have seen the incident take place to get in touch.
Officers say that two cars had stopped along the area of Five Lanes Road, meaning their occupants would have seen the accident take place.
Anyone who may be able to help the force in their enquires can get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 50260283877.
