A gritter vehicle from Devon County Council has skidded and overturned while treating a road overnight on Dartmoor.

It's reported that the gritter hit an icy patch on the B3212 between Princetown and Two Bridges in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The driver was taken to Derriford Hospital but is said to be uninjured.

There's now temporary closures on the B3357 Pork Hill to Princetown, and the B3212 from Douslan to Princetown due to the icy road conditions.

The council is reminding road users to only drive if necessary and be to be careful on roads around the region.

Devon County Council advice:

  • Never assume a road has been salted. Remember that showers or rain will wash salt off roads leaving them prone to ice, and in extreme cold even salting will not stop ice from forming.
  • Allow additional time for your journey. Reduce your speed and leave more space between you and the vehicle in front.
  • Drive with care and according to the conditions.
