East Devon District Council is reminding dog owners about seasonal restrictions on local beaches. They say they want to keep the coastline safe and enjoyable for all visitors during the busy summer months. Between 1 May and 30 September, seasonal restrictions apply across East Devon beaches. On Exmouth beach, dogs are not allowed between the Octagon café and the second groyne at Orcombe Point. In addition, dogs must be kept on leads along the esplanade, in Beach Gardens, Pavilion Grounds, and Queen’s Drive Space.

Over the past two months, Environmental Protection Officers have been patrolling Exmouth beach to engage with dog walkers and clarify restrictions.

The council warns that failure to comply with the restrictions may result in fixed penalty notices.

Councillor Geoff Jung, Portfolio Holder for Environment – Operational, said: ## “Our beaches are for everyone to enjoy. While many dog owners are aware of the restrictions and follow them responsibly, we remind all visitors to respect these rules to keep our coastlines safe, clean, and welcoming for all.”

Further information on dog restrictions across East Devon beaches, including at Beer, Budleigh Salterton, Seaton, and Sidmouth, can be found on the council’s website.
