As today is National Child Exploitation Awareness Day (18th March), communities in Devon and Cornwall are being urged to be vigilant about the signs of child exploitation.

Detective Chief Inspector Jo Devonshire from Devon & Cornwall Police stresses the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children from exploitation, which can take many forms beyond sexual abuse, including criminal activities.

The police force, central to efforts in the region, is dedicated to protecting children and encourages the public to report any suspicions they may have.

Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall, reminds residents that protecting children from exploitation is a shared duty.

She highlights how neighbours, carers, and local professionals can play a crucial role by spotting signs such as unexplained possessions, changes in behavior, or relationships with older individuals.

Devon & Cornwall Police offer resources and guidance on their website to help identify and report signs of exploitation.

Communities are urged to trust their instincts and report any concerns to help safeguard children and hold exploiters accountable.

Concerns can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers, ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable children in Devon and Cornwall.
