Devon & Cornwall Chief Constable agrees to stay for two more years
James Vaughan continues role amidst upcoming structural changes
Chief Constable James Vaughan will continue to lead the Devon & Cornwall Police, extending his tenure until August 2028, as confirmed by Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
She says this extension ensures stable leadership for the police force in the face of upcoming changes, including the government's plans to abolish the Police and Crime Commissioner's role in May 2028.
James Vaughan, who began his role in December 2024, has been praised for his strong leadership during significant organisational changes.
Alison Hernandez highlighted the cultural and performance improvements within the force under Vaughan's leadership, noting better call answering times and the successes of Operation Resolve, which has reallocated officers to frontline positions.
Chief Constable Vaughan expressed his honour to continue serving and his commitment to improving public service through the dedication of officers and volunteers.
The extension provides continuity as the force works to improve community services and tackle crime across Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly.
