Two men have been banned from accessing a popular retail park in Exeter as part of measures to curb shop theft and anti-social behaviour in the city.

Toby Wilson, aged 39, and Adam Peard, aged 38, have both been issued Criminal Behaviour Orders following their recent convictions for shoplifting offences.

Criminal Behaviour Orders

On 22nd January, Wilson was convicted of shop theft and subsequently received a Criminal Behaviour Order valid until 22nd January 2028.

The order prohibits him from entering Exe Bridges Retail Park and any private premises he's banned from, remaining on private land when asked to leave, possessing open vessels containing alcohol on Exeter streets, and consuming alcohol in public spaces except licensed premises.

On 12th February, Adam Peard pleaded guilty to shop theft, attempted theft, and assault, resulting in a Criminal Behaviour Order valid until 12th February 2028.

Peard is prohibited from entering Exe Bridges Retail Park, private premises he's banned from, and any Exeter Businesses Against Crime (EBAC) stores.

Police statement

Inspector Dave Turner from Exeter's neighbourhood policing team highlighted the significance of these orders: “Criminal Behaviour Orders are a powerful tool that will help our officers to protect business and retail staff against the persistent disruption caused by these individuals.

“Shop theft is not a victimless crime; retail staff are often subject to threats and violence, which is completely unacceptable.

“Retail workers deserve workplaces where safety is guaranteed, and we will continue to work with partner organisations to take action against prolific offenders who cause issues in our communities.”

Anyone with information about antisocial behaviour is encouraged to contact the police online via their reporting tool or by calling 101.
