High-visibility patrols remain in place in parts of Plymouth today (10 April) after emergency services were called out to the Barne Barton area last night.

They received reports at 9.10pm of an assault on a woman - and when they arrived, officers found a man had barricaded the address.

We're told he was making further threats to harm himself and others, and was causing damage within the property.

It was reported that he was in possession of a knife and a firearm.

No firearm was seen or found.

Local and firearms officers attended alongside the ambulance and fire services.

A cordon was put in place while officers negotiated with the man.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed he was treated for minor injuries - and a cordon has now been lifted.

In a statement, they added: "The incident concluded safely after officers later forced entry to the property and the man left the address without further incident around 10.35pm.

"He was treated by ambulance for minor injuries.

"The woman was checked by ambulance but was not injured.

"A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

"He remains in custody at this time.

"All cordons were lifted around 11pm.

"Local officers will be conducting high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area today and enquiries continue."
