Today we're reporting on the rise of saunas here - with almost 30 now operating across Devon

The not-for-profit Devon Community Sauna CIC operate outdoor eco ones in Exmouth and Teignmouth and also includes free sessions for those who can't afford it.

Co-founder Sara Dance said: "We're here to serve the community and all the money goes back into the community.

"The first year here we gave away £15,000 worth of free saunas because we believe sauna is for everyone. The important thing for us is that it's about community so we want people to come and have conversations and we want it to combat loneliness.

Dave, a regular sauna-goer in Teignmouth, said: "It's brilliant for you. It's good for your physical and mental wellbeing but it's also quite social so we end up chatting to everybody and the sea is just there (close by) and you can do your sauna and then a cold dip.

Fellow sauna devotee Jo added: "It's so nice, you come here, you meet so many different people - people you then see around town or people you never see again because they are maybe visitors. It's a real sense of community, everybody's in great spirits.

Ms Dance added: "On Wednesdays we do what we call 'Wellbeing Wednesdays' which is a free sauna for anyone who needs it, who can’t afford it.

"I feel like Brits have really taken it to heart, particularly in the cold west winters. Sauna now is so popular here that they are saying that come 2030 sauna in this country is going to be bigger than Finland - so this is massive in this country."

There is also a not-for-profitBritish Sauna Societywhich aims to 'make its physical, mental and social health benefits accessible to more people across the United Kingdom' and currently lists around 30 sites in Devon and more than 600 in total.
