Two people and a dog have been rescued from a Northumberland beauty spot after being cut off by the tide.

Seahouses lifeboat was scrambled to the base of cliffs just north of the town's harbour around midday today (Thursday) following a report of "persons in danger".

And, within minutes, the trio were safely on board the D-class vessel and returned to dry land, where they were handed into the care of the local Coastguard team.

The shout for help is the crew's first call-out of the year.

RNLI Senior Station Technician Graeme Trotter said: "This was a really swift response to reports of persons cut off and in danger.

"It goes to show how a simple dog walk along the beach can end up in difficulty."
