'Nice Sunday run': Teviotdale Harriers to the four at Jedburgh half marathon
Last updated 25th Oct 2026
Hundreds of runners braved the weather to take part in Jedburgh’s annual running festival over the weekend.
The Jed Renilson wheelchair and hand bike races had been cancelled in advance amid concerns over a number of weather warnings issued by the Met Office.
But a beautiful sunrise set the scene for Saturday’s ultra, after a day of rain dumped by Storm Austen.
And, despite an amber weather warning in place due to the strong winds swept in by Storm Boelo on Sunday, conditions did little to dampen spirits, with the 10k and half marathon races both going ahead.
Charlie Young is President of Jethart Callants Club, which runs the event.
He told Greatest Hits Radio: “We had a couple of trees down that were cleared last night and this morning, and I had some hesitation from some people, but then they just all came and they all wanted to go, so I just let them go.
“We've got runners as far away as Truro in Cornwall; and the first guy there is from Musselburgh.” And he added: “It's magic they're all coming to Jed for this.”
Martin Maginnis, representing Linlithgow Athletic Club, was first home in the 10k, with a time of 38 minutes and 54 seconds – just 12 seconds ahead of Greg Mcgovern, of Tweed Leader Jed Track, in second place.
Daniel Lavin, from Gala Harriers, finished third at his first attempt in the out and back race, while club mate Martha Douglas won the woman's race.
“First half felt pretty fast,” Daniel said. “And then there was a headwind all the way back into Jedburgh, so it made it very tough.
“Just getting to the race was quite challenging. There were a few trees down, but I've had a good day. Quite enjoyed it.”
Teviotdale Harriers claimed all three podium spots in the half marathon, as well as fourth place.
Rory Anderson - who described the race as a "nice Sunday run" - was first over the line in a time of just over one hour and 15 minutes.
He was closely followed by Greg Walker, Mark Young and Sean Linton.
“I've never actually done the half marathon," Rory said. "I've done the 10k a few times and won that, but I thought I'd do the half marathon today.
“It's been a tale of two halves. The first half was amazing, and then we turned coming back up from Crailing and the wind just hit us in the face.
“It was hard going but I’m chuffed to get the win."
