A 66-year-old man has died a month after being seriously injured in a crash on the A7 in the Scottish Borders.

Ian Weir was driving just south of the junction for Fountainhall when his blue Toyota Rav4 collided with a telecommunications pole - leaving the road and coming to a stop in a field.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following the incident - which happened around 10.30am on Thursday, December 4th - but died in Borders General Hospital on Monday (January 12th).

His family say they've been left devastated by the loss of the man they describe as a "much-loved brother and uncle".

In a statement released through Police Scotland today (Saturday), they added: "He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash to come forward.

In particular, officers say they are yet to identify a man who stopped to provide assistance, and would encourage them to make contact.

Road Policing Constable Lisa Parker said: "I'd like to thank members of the public who assisted at the scene before emergency services arrived.

"We're still keen to speak to anyone who was on the A7 around the time of the crash and saw what happened.

"In particular, we are yet to identify a man who stopped to provide assistance, and I would encourage them to make contact with us.

"Also, if anyone has dash-cam footage of the area, please review this and bring anything of significance to our attention."

Ian Weir's family have released a statement through Police Scotland.

She added: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Weir and we will continue to support them while our enquiries progress."
